How to use the Emergency Assistance Grip
The Liberty Cane holds an Emergency Assistance Grip to help you up from a fallen
or kneeling position.
To become comfortable with using the Liberty Cane Emergency Assistance Grip, we suggest
you practice using the Emergency Assistance Grip in righting yourself to a standing
position from a prone position on the floor.
Once you reach this comfort zone you will never worry about getting back
to a standing position after a fall.
To get started, place yourself in a prone position on the floor…..
next, place the Liberty Cane foot on the floor and maneuver your body into
a kneeling position. Now, follow the three steps outlined below.
 |
Step 1:
- Remove Emergency Assistance Grip from Handle by twisting
the pin and pulling at the same time.
- Place Emergency Assistance Grip into the opening located near the
middle of the shaft.
|
 |
Step 2:
- Using the cane for support, bring one knee up until your foot is
on the floor.
- Position the cane 12 inches in front of other knee (knee resting
on the floor).
- Grasp cane Handle with hand from same side of your
body as is the knee that is resting on the floor.
- Grasp Emergency Assistance Grip with other hand.
|
 |
Step 3:
- Pull the Handle in tight to arm socket.
- Slowly lean forward while placing equal amounts of weight on both
the Handle and the Emergency Assistance Grip.
- To start ascending, continue leaning forward while applying downward
pressure to both hands and the foot resting on floor.
